Adventure

NUNUKU'S LAW

Hundreds of years ago the Moriori arrived by canoe from Eastern Polynesia to become the indigenous people of an island they named Rekohu meaning “Misty Sun”—an allusion to the weather commonly experienced there. We know it today as the Chatham Islands.

When Nunuku-whenua witnessed brutal fighting among a group, he urged the establishment of a peace covenant which became the bedrock of Moriori culture. Guided by principles of non-violence, they established a peaceful society committed to harmonious living.

For half a millennium the Moriori lived under this covenant of peace – Nunuku’s Law – solving problems with a different approach.

This inspiration toward problem solving remains – old problems require new ways of thinking and acting to achieve great outcomes.

heritage

Our heritage shapes and makes us what we are. It comes from the stories and philosophies we share, influencing our thinking and how we act.  From this foundation it is our experiences that can provide us with wisdom and the skills we develop to help us navigate our path.

Edward Sparrow (Director Nunuku Partners) has family heritage linked back to the Chatham Islands.  A heritage of operating business in a challenging location, where text book solutions seldom work, where providing creative thinking to solve the issues of the day is the only way.
